Chances of an Edit option in Twitter tackled by CEO Jack Dorsey
At an event in India the Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey talked about the platform. He talked about the future of the platform that what kind of changes the users will be expecting. One of the main change that many people are keen about it is the edit option when you are tweeting. This option has been widely needed by many people. The Users want it badly as they want to edit whenever they make a mistake while tweeting something. The CEO shared some information regarding the edit option of the Twitter platform, he told the audience that we are looking into this edit option and we want to add this as an option but Twitter as a social media platform likes to prevent certain things from happening when they will add the edit option.
The things that the CEO shared is if the edit option is allowed then the users can edit almost every other tweet of their own, even the tweets which have been retweeted by many people, this can create a certain type of confusion among the users that a user was conveying a message and then after that his or her message has been completely changed through the edit option. Twitter does not want that to happen. The CEO shared that we are looking a way from which we can just allow the user to fix their typos in a tweet in 5 minute time window. Jack added by saying that the team cannot just rush into it and add the edit option, the team has been looking into this matter for past two years and they are finding a right way to overcome the problems which they are facing.
The main problem that is preventing Twitter to add the edit option is that people can alter meaning by editing tweets which is not right for many users but still Facebook has the edit option and it did not cause any type of problems for the users and the platform. In Facebook people can even edit the posts that have been shared so for Twitter it should not be problem. There are some features that are being challenged within Twitter. Just like many scammers are somehow taking control of verified accounts and pretending to be someone and sharing fake information on behalf of that public figure. Many users do fall for this trap when they see the verified option so when we talk about the edit option within Twitter, the wrong use of this option is not a problem which is preventing the team to add the edit option. There are other reasons which Twitter has to face before rushing into this matter. Users have to ask themselves that does the edit option will enhance the Twitter experience or not? So it is not clear that will there ever be an edit option in Twitter, Jack Dorsey did not confirm anything about this feature. We have to wait and see that what will this platform will bring in terms of new changes.
